Wyden Statement on the HRSA Grant to the LaPine Community Clinic
Washington, D.C. - The La Pine Community Health Clinic has been awarded a $638,646 grant for the period March 1, 2009 through February 28, 2010. The agency that administers the grant program is the Health Resources and Services Administration. Half the money will be available immediately. The other half of the money will be available soon now that the Omnibus has been signed. The clinic is also eligible for funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"This Federal grant of more than $600,000 will help keep the doors of the La Pine Community Clinic open. Too many rural areas are being turned into health care sacrifice zones without a doctor or a hospital for miles around, but this grant will shore up the La Pine Community Clinic and ensure residents of Southern Deschutes County access to affordable primary care. The La Pine Community Clinic has been holding down the fort during a tough economic downturn, and I was happy to help them navigate the federal bureaucracy and secure this grant as soon as possible."
