Wyden Statement on Senator Bob Bennett

Portland, OR – Today, Senator Ron Wyden (D – Ore.) released the following statement on the passing of former Utah Senator Bob Bennett:

“I am truly saddened by the news of Senator Bob Bennett’s passing,” Wyden said. “Senator Bennett was a cherished friend of mine and I have missed his presence since the day he left the Senate. Nancy and I extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Joyce and their children.

“Senator Bennett was committed to creating solutions instead of soundbites, he fought fiercely for Utahans every day, and he embodied the idea of principled bipartisanship that I believe is so fundamental to the character of the Senate. We were bipartisan legislative partners in a number of areas, including health reform, and each time I worked with him was a reminder of his incredible intellect, work ethic, and thoughtfulness. Unfortunately those qualities are in too short supply in Congress today. I will honor Senator Bennett’s rich legacy on the Senate floor in greater length at a later date.”
