Wyden Statement on Border Supplemental Votes

Washington, D.C.— U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement after voting against the Senate version of legislation providing additional funding to the Trump administration for activities at the southern border:

“The Trump administration is committing human rights abuses at our border against families and children fleeing to the United States for safety, greeting them with terror and jail cells.

“Congress has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of these kids and families. Humanitarian relief is needed, but it must come with clear and enforceable protections from Congress that stop this monstrous administration from inflicting more atrocities against kids.

“I supported the House package because it would curb Donald Trump’s most extreme, anti-refugee and anti-immigrant policies. The Senate package, unfortunately, doesn’t go far enough to provide the guardrails needed to hold this administration accountable and is too close to a blank check.”
