Wyden Praises Nomination of Sharon Bradford Franklin for Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board
Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., a senior member of the Senate Intelligence committee, hailed the nomination of seasoned privacy advocate Sharon Bradford Franklin to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB), in a statement today:
“Sharon’s record is second-to-none when it comes to standing up for Americans’ rights. Whether it’s working within PCLOB to put a spotlight on secret law, or fighting to protect the privacy and security of Americans in civil society, Sharon has consistently pressed for openness, sunlight and the public’s right to know about how government surveillance is conducted and who is affected. I’m confident Sharon will ensure the government doesn’t forget the words of another famous Franklin, that liberty and security aren’t mutually exclusive. I applaud President Biden for this fine choice to lead PCLOB.”
