Wyden: PGE Will Do Everything Possible to Keep Residential Rate Hikes Below Inflation Rate Beyond 2025
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ron Wyden said today he is glad that PGE is focusing on keeping utility rates below the cost of inflation beyond 2025, a concern he’s heard repeatedly from Oregonians in town halls and other settings in the state.
“Given that Oregon ratepayers have seen their electric bills go up by more than 40 percent since 2021 and other policies have created hardships for some Oregon families it is vital that we have a shared commitment to do better in the future,” Wyden wrote in a letter today to PGE President and CEO Maria Pope that follows his Nov. 25 letter asking PGE to answer questions about increased rates for Oregon ratepayers.
“In an effort to move our exchange forward, I note that we discussed the following,” he wrote, listing the following discussion points of his recent conversation with Pope:
· PGE will, beyond 2025, do everything possible to keep residential rate hikes below the rate of inflation.
· PGE will take every possible step to ensure that increases in industrial uses do not result in raising electricity rates for residential customers.
· PGE will send to me in my capacity as chair of the US Senate Committee on Finance, the multiple ways in which the clean energy tax credits I authored in 2022 have served and can serve to keep electric rates down.
· I will engage with Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) and regulators to identify further opportunities to ensure Oregon residential ratepayers have access to the most affordable power possible.
