Wyden: New Report Shows Stunning Incompetence and Abuse of Power By Trump DHS in Portland
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., issued the following statement on a newly public report that reviewed the activities of the Trump Department of Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis in Portland, beginning in the summer of 2020:
“This report is 76 pages of stunning incompetence, mismanagement, and abuse of power by the Trump Administration’s Department of Homeland Security, in order to politicize and inflame conflict in Portland. Independent investigators confirmed that DHS intelligence officials lacked basic knowledge of their authority, what constituted real threats, and when it was appropriate to investigate Americans who were suspected of no crime at all. It documents how untrained analysts investigated journalists. And there is more information that I believe the public deserves to know, but has been redacted. I’ll continue working to make those items public. However, it is clear that there needs to be a top-to-bottom overhaul of DHS’s Office Intelligence and Analysis to address the systemic problems identified in this review."
