Wyden, Merkley Statements on Nomination of Jennifer Sung to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit

Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today issued the following statements about the Biden administration’s nomination of Jennifer Sung to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

“I wholeheartedly applaud the Biden administration for its nomination of Jennifer Sung to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. Ms. Sung brings broad and extensive experience to this judicial opening. She has worked with distinction in public service on Oregon’s Employment Relations Board, after a stellar legal career in the private sector with a practice focused on representing both labor organizations and employees,” Wyden said. “Diversification of the U.S. courts is essential to providing equal justice to all, and I salute the administration for taking this step toward achieving that long-overdue objective by forwarding an Asian-American woman who has fully earned this nomination with her outstanding record.”

“It is crucial that nominees to the federal bench have the experience and expertise needed to serve the American people and rule of law, protecting our sacred values of freedom and equality for all—and not giving a free pass to the privileged and powerful,” said Merkley. “Throughout her career, Ms. Sung has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the public’s interest and in protecting our workers from exploitation. I welcome her nomination to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and look forward to supporting her throughout her confirmation process.”
