Wyden, Merkley: Oregon Communities to Get $22.4 Million in COVID-19 Aid for Housing

Housing resources will go to cities of Albany, Ashland, Beaverton, Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Grants Pass, Gresham, Hillsboro, Medford, Portland, Redmond, Salem, Springfield; Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties; communities across Oregon

Washington, DC – U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today said communities across Oregon will receive $22.4 million to help households facing higher risk of eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The economic challenges of this public health crisis have slammed Oregonians, many of whom are now facing the added and ongoing threat of wildfires bearing down on their communities,” Wyden said. “I’m gratified these funds will be available to help Oregon families to make rent and stay in their homes, and I will keep battling to provide all available housing resources throughout our state.”

“As Oregonians struggle to stay safe from both raging wildfires and the coronavirus, access to safe, affordable housing is only becoming more urgent," said Merkley. “These housing assistance grants will help tackle that problem, but much more support is needed. We all need to keep working to help keep roofs over Oregonians’ heads throughout this unprecedented and difficult chapter.”

The $22.4 million for Oregon in supplemental Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding is authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.

The $22.4 million will be distributed in Oregon by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as follows:
