Wyden, Merkley: More than $140,000 to Klamath Community College to Recruit Veterans for a Commercial Driver Training Program
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today announced that Klamath Community College has earned a $140,856 grant from the United States Department of Transportation for a commercial driver training program for veterans.
“Oregonians who have served this country deserve every opportunity to have productive civilian careers,” Wyden said. “The Commercial Driver’s License program will play a crucial role in ensuring that student veterans at Klamath Community College have a path toward a good-paying, union career. I am gratified to see transportation funds go toward such a cause.”
“Oregon servicemen and women deserve a smooth transition from military service to sustainable career paths,” said Merkley. “I am pleased to see Klamath Community College receive this grant that creates educational and economic opportunity for veterans in Southern Oregon. I will continue to advocate for resources that support our veterans and the goals they aim to achieve. They have stood up for us, so we need to stand up for them.”
This award will provide funding to Klamath Community College to recruit and enroll veterans and/or their family members in the college’s Commercial Driver’s License program. Klamath Community College anticipates enrolling at least 27 students in 2021.
