Wyden, Merkley: $70,000 in Federal Funds for Economic Development to the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today announced that the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs will receive $70,000 in federal funds for regional economic development.

“Investing in Tribal communities is vital to spur economic prosperity in reservations across Oregon and nationwide,” Wyden said. “This federal investment will help strengthen the economy of the Warm Springs Reservation and create jobs in the region. And I’ll continue fighting to ensure all the tribes in our state have the economic resources they need to thrive and to keep reversing a long and horrendous history of injustice by the federal government.”

“Supporting the economies of Oregon Tribes is vital to the growth and success of Tribal communities,” said Senator Merkley. “This funding for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs will help individuals and Tribal families by supporting job creation and economic development in the region for years to come.”

This investment comes from the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, which establishes an economic development planning framework, process, and strategy that supports private capital investment and job creation.

“The recent $70,000 Economic Development Administration award is encouraging news for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs," said Tribal Chairman Jonathan W. Smith. "It will assist us with updating comprehensive planning for our Tribal community. Having these types of resources available is important to us and it provides us with some of the tools we will need to help develop our Tribal economy. We are thankful for the work and support from Senator Wyden and Senator Merkley."
