Portland, Or -- Since 1994, the Violence Against Women Act has helped thousands of women escape a life of domestic violence, achieve a measure of freedom and regain their self respect. Now, renewing the Act is stalled in Congress. Senator Ron Wyden, local law enforcement officials and advocates will urge congressional action on the Act at a news conference on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. A roundtable discussion about the Act, its benefits and the consequences if it is not renewed will follow the news conference.

Note: In order to protect the confidentiality and safety of survivors, the press conference will take place in the back of the building. We ask that no one record the front of the building and work with staff when interviewing survivors.  Call Tom Towslee if you have questions or concerns.
