25 Oregon Health Clinics to Receive $5.2 Million in Federal Economic Recovery Funds

Washington, D.C. - Recognizing the importance of improved health care to a strong economy, Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley announced today that $5.2 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be going to 25 health clinics in 20 Oregon communities.

"Addressing our nation's health care crisis is an essential element in having a healthy nation and a healthy economy," Wyden said. "This money will be used to expand health care services throughout Oregon, including hiring new doctors and other health care providers, expanding hours of operations and increasing services."

"The recession is placing ever greater burdens on our community health clinics," said Merkley. "These funds will both create jobs and allow clinics to serve the growing number of families that need their services."

The money coming to Oregon communities is part of a $338 million program by the Department of Health and Human Services to expand community health centers nationwide. The money is being made available through grants as part of President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
