Wyden and Merkley Send Names of Five Finalists for Federal Judgeship to the White House
Portland, OR – Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley sent to The White House today the names of five finalists to fill a vacant federal district court judgeship in Eugene. The White House will select one of the candidates and forward it to the Senate for confirmation.
The five finalists are (in alphabetical order):
- Suzanne Chanti, Lane County Circuit Court Judge;
- Hannah Horsley, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Oregon;
- Bryan E. Lessley, Assistant Federal Public Defender, Eugene, Oregon;
- Michael McShane, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge;
- Adrienne Nelson, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge.
“Oregon has been fortunate to have a long history of outstanding judges serving our state on the federal bench, and we are pleased that the selection committee identified five excellent candidates who can continue in that tradition,” Wyden and Merkley said. “We are confident that our state and the Eugene community would be well served by having any one of them as a federal judge. We hope that whoever is ultimately nominated by the President will be promptly confirmed and can quickly become the latest in a long line of first-rate federal judges serving Oregon.”
Wyden interviewed the five candidates last weekend after receiving recommendations from a 13-member committee appointed last fall by Wyden and Merkley to find a replacement for U.S. District Court Judge Michael Hogan, who has taken senior status.
