In an effort to increase transparency and accountability in the appropriations process, Senators Wyden and Merkley have decided to post every funding request they receive this year to their web sites and are seeking input from the public in order to make sure Oregonians have a voice in determining federal spending priorities. The links below will connect the public to the requests that fall under each appropriations category. A form can be found at the end of each category's page for public comments.
The appropriations proposals being posted include every request received and have not been vetted or approved by the Senate offices. Wyden and Merkley decided to post every request that their offices received this year and asked for citizen input in an effort to give Oregonians a greater voice in determining federal spending priorities. The senators factored public support for appropriations projects into their decision-making.
Below are lists of the congressional earmarks for Oregon requested by Oregonians through the offices of Senators Wyden and Merkley this fiscal year:
**Please note that not all requests have been posted online at this time. We are working on making all the requests available as we get them.**
Not all of the requests received by the two senators were submitted for funding consideration, only requests deemed to have congressional funding potential were submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee. That committee will then select a limited number of projects from each state for funding.
Below are lists of projects that were submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee:
** Please note that not all projects will be submitted at the same time. We will post all requested projects as they are submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee. **Once the final list of projects to be forwarded to the committee is determined, the following process begins: Senate appropriations are first voted on and passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee. When they are approved by the committee, they come to the Senate floor for a vote by all Senators. Once they have been passed by the Senate, a Senate-House conference committee convenes to reconcile the differences between House and Senate versions of the bill. After approval by the conference committee, the bills are again voted on by the House and Senate, and are sent to the President for his or her signature. Once the President signs the bill, it becomes law.
